Frequently Asked Questions
Please find below a list of Frequently Asked Questions. If you have any questions that have not been answered here, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
What organisations should I approach to help me in my caring role?
There are a range of organisations within the City and County who provide different kinds of help for a Carer. It depends on your own situation as to which service or services you will need. Please refer to our ‘Links’ page for further information regarding these organisations.
How can I get to meet and know people in a similar situation so we can share experience and knowledge?
You are welcome to attend the Carers’ Action bi-monthly Forums. The Forum works with Carers, health and social care providers and voluntary organisations to ensure that Carers are heard and involved in shaping, developing and monitoring services. At our Forums we discuss a wide range of issues such as Carer respite services, Carer assessments, Personalisation and national/local developments. If you would like to have your opinions heard, please come along! Details of our next Forum can be found at the end of our latest newsletter.
How do I find out more information about the medication prescribed to someone who suffers from a mental illness?
Initially, we would recommend that you direct any questions that you have regarding medication to the healthcare specialist that has prescribed them. Further information can be obtained from www.medicines.org.uk/emc. This website contains information such as possible side effects, special warnings and precautions for use. Please note, however, that every patient’s circumstances are different and that all further information/advice must be sought from the prescribing clinician according to the problems of the particular patient.
How do I cope caring for someone with Mental Health problems?
Caring is a difficult and full-time job and you cannot do it in isolation. Contact your local GP, LAMP (0116 255 6286 / www.lampdirect.org.uk / lamp@lampdirect.org.uk) or Carers’ Action (0116 262 1067 / contact@carers-action.co.uk) for a Carers Information Pack; this will give you contact details of a range of organisations who will be able to support and encourage you.
How can I obtain all relevant details relating to Carer Support Services?
Obtain a copy of the Carers Information Pack from your local GP, LAMP (0116 255 6286 / www.lampdirect.org.uk / lamp@lampdirect.org.uk) or Carers’ Action (0116 262 1067 / contact@carers-action.co.uk). Alternatively, you can visit the Involvement Centre at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit (Glenfield Hospital, Groby Road, Leicester, LE3 9DZ). This area has a stand and information on all of the major support services available.
